Illustration is a wonderful asset within a brand toolkit, but I've also discovered a joy for creating stand-alone images – personalised artworks of both people and places.
You may have noticed the generous artistic licence taken in this depiction of the Edwardian ‘Cure Hall’ – The Grand Pavilion in Matlock Bath. Restoring architectural details and keeping that pink render fresh doesn’t come cheap... So this is the most cost-effective way of giving a much-loved legend a little face lift! Sold to the community in 2010, The Grand Pavilion is now a growing events space, specialising in Theatre, Music, Dance and Comedy. Run as a charity, it's still undergoing renovation, supported by local patrons and a lot of volunteer hours! I've donated this image to 'The Pav' and have started creating own-brand product labels which help raise money for vital restorations and maintenance.
Some say brave, others say bonkers. Say what you like, but wild swimming has become ‘a thing’ in the UK. It’s said to boost your mood, your metabolism and immune system. If you think it might be your thing, try the Youlgreave Wild Swimming spot, on the River Bradford, not far from Bakewell. But you swim at your own risk, wetsuits and sandals optional. Swimming caps not required.
A playful project working with a brand copywriter to bring words and pictures together - specifically for social media platforms. Illustrations were created as animated gifs, which sadly isn't supported by Go Daddy templates. 😩
OK, before anyone gets up in arms, we’re simply paying homage to an age-old classic, The Bakewell Tart. A lovely little pastry – quite sweet, nutty, sometimes crusty. The model is inspired by my Nana who is partial to a bit of tartan, isn’t afraid to mix patterns, and, armed with a brolly and bag-for-life, absolutely loves a day out in Bakewell.
Tourists visiting the Victorian spa town of Matlock no longer need a prescription for ‘taking the waters’ – to drink from, or bathe in the curative natural springs. But, you can still take the waters of Matlock, by strolling or paddling down the River Derwent. While not strictly providing medicinal qualities, it’s very good for the soul!
While the actual distance from the sea is often debated, what is never in dispute is Matlock Bath’s reputation for stunning scenery, family fun and ice creams galore.
While on maternity leave, I was inspired by my own cheeky kids wearing adult sunglasses, and started making graphics-inspired portraits, using prints and patterns within these images gave them personality and a bit of style.
Born and raised in Alberta, Canada, the Rocky Mountains are my happy place. the golfers are set on one of the most beautiful courses in the world - Kananaskis.
